These ancient mountains,
slow rolling billows
on a Pre-Cambrian Sea.
This airey shore where
ammonites and corals,
fossil bones emerging,
return to the light
after a billion years below.
Not water now but soft,
blue hills receding,
one after the other
like blankets drawn up
over sleeping children.
